Balsamic glazed Brussels sprouts with bacon are easy to make and surprisingly flavourful. This dish uses only 4 ingredients. You need 10 minutes of active cooking time to bring a restaurant-quality dish to the dinner table.

I ordered this balsamic Brussels sprout dish at a really nice tapa restaurant a few months ago. When it came out, it looked almost black and I didn’t expect much. But don’t let the look of the dish fool you. The combination of sweet, salty, acidic, and charred flavours will get anyone to eat their Brussels sprouts. Balsamic Brussels Sprouts Ingredients
- Brussels sprouts
- Bacon strips
- Salt
- Balsamic glaze: Balsamic glaze is a balsamic vinegar reduction. Even though they have similar taste, it’s best to use balsamic glaze in this dish. The balsamic glaze will create a thicker coating on the outside of the Brussels sprouts, while the balsamic vinegar will be too watery for this dish.

Cooking Tips
- After washing the Brussels sprouts, make sure to dry off the water completely. Residual water on the Brussels sprouts will make them soggy and not reaching the intended results after roasting. We want the Brussels sprouts to brown and caramelize around the edge at the end of the roasting process.
- There is no need to add oil in this dish. Spread the bacon slices evenly over the Brussels sprouts, and let the bacon fat get cooked out of the bacon and into the Brussels sprouts.
- Don’t add the balsamic glaze during the first 30 minutes of roasting time. The moisture in balsamic glaze would steam the Brussels sprouts before the Brussels sprouts get a chance to char, if balsamic glaze is added from the beginning.
